A 4K projector gives you a 100-inch-plus picture that stays sharp up close. These five, chosen from RTINGS' lab tests, cover a dark-room showpiece, a do-it-all mid-range model, a budget pick with excellent contrast, an ultra-short-throw, and a portable.
The best 4K projector you can buy on Amazon is the XGIMI TITAN Noir (~$3,999): outstanding contrast and color, a motorized zoom and lens shift, and top-tier gaming performance.
The XGIMI HORIZON 20 (~$1,500) is nearly as bright and adds Google TV for much less, and the JMGO N1S 4K (~$799) is the best budget 4K projector, with excellent contrast for a dark room.
Almost every 4K projector under several thousand dollars uses pixel shifting: a 1080p or 2.7K imaging chip shifts its pixels rapidly so they overlap on the screen, building up a 4K image. True native 4K chips cost far more. That's not a scam; with good processing, a pixel-shift 4K projector is clearly sharper than 1080p, especially on a big screen. All of our picks use pixel shifting.
Sharpness, though, isn't what separates a great projector from an average one. Contrast (how deep blacks look), brightness, and color matter more. Our picks follow RTINGS' lab measurements, which test every projector the same way. Before you buy, use our projector screen size calculator to check what fits your room.

RTINGS' current top 4K pick is the XGIMI TITAN Noir Max, a brighter version of the TITAN Noir with even better contrast. It isn't sold new on Amazon yet, so we list the TITAN Noir instead; if you can buy the Max from XGIMI directly, it's the step up.
The best picture of any 4K projector we can link on Amazon. RTINGS measured contrast better than most projectors on the market, so blacks look deep in dark scenes, and colors are outstanding. It's bright enough to look punchy in a dark room and stay watchable with a few lights on. A motorized zoom lens and lens shift make it far easier to line up with a screen than budget models, and it removes judder from most sources, so movies move smoothly.
Worth knowing: there's no built-in smart OS, so plan on adding a streaming device. It's also an excellent gaming projector; see our gaming projector guide.

RTINGS rates its contrast very good, though blacks aren't as deep as the TITAN Noir's. It keeps the same motorized zoom, lens shift, and screen-fitting tools, and it supports 4K at 60Hz or 1080p up to 240Hz with VRR.
Worth knowing: removing judder drops the resolution to 1080p, so you choose between sharpness and smooth motion. Input lag is much higher than the TITAN Noir's, which is fine for story games but not competitive ones. The brighter HORIZON 20 Pro is the step up.

It's bright enough for a dark room, colors are vivid enough, and Google TV is built in. For a movie room you can make dark, it's the best value in 4K.
Worth knowing: there's no zoom lens or lens shift, so you'll move the projector itself to size and center the image. It can't remove judder, it's limited to 60Hz with no VRR, and it has only one HDMI input, so connect a soundbar through eARC if you have other devices.

RTINGS found the Aetherion Pro's contrast great in most scenes and its colors excellent, and it removes judder from its own apps and modern streaming devices. It's a strong gaming projector too, with very low input lag and VRR.
Worth knowing: it's bright enough for a dark room but washes out with lights on, unless you pair it with an ambient-light-rejecting screen. There's no zoom or lens shift, so setup takes patience. The brighter Aetherion Max is in our main projector guide.

RTINGS found its contrast decent and consistent, and it's bright enough for a dark room. A motorized zoom and automatic screen-fitting tools make setup quick wherever you take it, and its input lag is very low for gaming.
Worth knowing: there's no battery or lens shift, and it isn't bright enough for a lit room. See our portable projector guide for battery-powered options.

Pair a 4K projector with a soundbar or AV receiver; our Dolby Atmos soundbar picks are the easiest upgrade. And for the best picture a projector can show, feed it a 4K Blu-ray: discs carry far more detail than 4K streaming.
